Stupid Easy Bar-tending Tricks ~ Cocktail Kegs

Print Friendly and PDF
So, you love to bar tend but hate to be stuck behind the bar all night making cocktails for your kooky friends?  Here is a stupid easy bar-tending trick I learned from a master bartender, alchemist “The Newt King”, an infamous party bar-tending legend on the Playa of Black Rock City, NV.

Newt not only makes his own organic Absinthe for the past 10 + years that I know of, and he makes his own hand crafted delicious wine, and outstanding home brewed beer, he also would generously bring GALLONS of premixed fresh squeezed cocktails to the party in 5 gallon soda kegs with his CO2 tank and could serve massive amounts of fresh cocktails to massive amounts of people fast!

All you need is to fill a fancy glass with ice, tap the keg and add fresh squeezes and garnishes and BAM, good, easy awesome fresh cocktails!

I just made a couple 5 gallon cocktail kegs for my last camping trip and this one recipe was the biggest hit and will most likely be a staple at my portable VW T2 Bus Boomerang Bar… I went to COSTCO for the big cost effective size Rums for this recipe below.

The Perfect 5 Gallon Recipe for Hawaiian Mai Tai’s
I have fooled with this recipe to get it just right and this was hands down the best recipe voted by all my Tiki bar loving pals!

INGREDIENTS:
2 – 1.75 Liters Bacardi Rum
2 - 1.75 Liters Malibu Coconut Rum
1 – 750 Milliliter Triple Sec (Orange Liqueur)
2 – Gallon’s Orange Juice
1 – Liter Pineapple Juice
1 – 16 ounce bottle of Fresh Organic Lime Juice
1 – Campden tablet per 5 gallon keg (This preserves the juice in the keg to last a long time)
1 - 1.75 Liter Dark Malibu Rum (OPTIONAL - As a topper to each glass at the end and then add fresh fruit garnishes of your choice)

What you will need equipment wise for a cocktail keg:
1 – CO2 tank

COCKTAIL KEG MIXING MUSIC SELECTION: Les Baxter - Voodoo Dreams / Voodoo

PREPARATION:
Clean keg out thoroughly with home brewing sanitizer and rinse well. Add all of the ingredients.  Seal the keg lid on firmly and add the CO2 to replace any Oxygen in the keg.  Shake it up and you are ready to pour 90 twelve ounce glasses of Mai Tai’s in a flash, or more depending on the size of your glasses. Stupid easy and you can have way more fun bartending making fancy cocktails for those who need them, but you can have anyone help you pour outstanding Mai Tai’s and any other premixed cocktails, Margarita’s, Hurricane's, Mojito’s… you name it, you can make them – STUPID EASY!  Have fun!!!!
